University of Colorado Denver
The University of Colorado Denver (UCD) is Colorado's premier research university. UCD has than 27,000 students combined online and located at the downtown Denver, Ninth and Colorado, and Anschutz Medical Campuses. The university boasts more than 100 degree programs in 12 schools and colleges. UCD awards more than 3,400 degrees every year and issues more graduate degrees granted than any other institution in Colorado. The university also serves more than 500,000 patients a year through our hospital and clinical services.
Campuses:
9th Avenue & Colorado Boulevard Campus
The University of Colorado Denver is currently in the process of completing the detailed transitional planning for the program relocation to Fitzsimons; the closure and predemolition remediation of the facilities at the 9th Ave site; and the transfer of the property to the Master Developer, Shea Properties by December 31, 2009. Program relocation and the schedules for the building closure and remediation at the 9th Ave. and Colorado Blvd. site are being coordinated with the construction completion and occupancy schedules for the new buildings at the Fitzsimons campus. The campus will vacate the 9th Ave. and Colorado Blvd. buildings and property as the new facilities at Fitzsimons become available.
Anschutz Medical Campus
In 1995, when the Fitzsimons Army Medical Center was officially put on the Base Realignment and Closure list, officials from Health Sciences Center, University of Colorado Hospital and the City of Aurora presented an innovative proposal to the Department of Defense in Washington, D.C. The proposal emphasized the benefits of reusing the decommissioned base to build — from the ground up — a world-class, academic health center, including state-of-the-art health care facilities. In addition, the campus is directly adjacent to the Colorado Science and Technology Park at Fitzsimons, providing opportunities to take university research discoveries into the stream of commerce at an accelerated rate, through affiliation with the biotech companies in the 160-acre development.
Downtown Campus
UCD Downtown campus is located in the heart of downtown Denver - at the hub of the city's business, recreational, and commercial districts. UCD Downtown campus is part of the Auraria Campus and has individual buildings located near LoDo and at other sites within the city. It is surrounded by an abundance of recreational, cultural, academic, and professional outlets.
The Auraria Campus is comprised of three universities: Metropolitan State College of Denver, Community College of Denver, and University of Colorado. In the fall of 2006 a new UCD student housing facility, Campus Village, opened within easy walking distance of the Auraria Campus and the downtown Denver area.
