The University of Colorado Denver Police Department provides police, security and access control to the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora. University police officers wear dark blue uniforms and drive black and white patrol units. The uniform guards wear light grey shirts with dark blue slacks as uniforms and drive white vehicles with an amber light bar. Police officers can also be seen on bicycles for visibility and ease of movement around the campuses.  For emergencies, call 911 from any campus phone or 303-724-4444 from your cell phone. For non-emergency calls for service, call 44444 from any campus phone or 303-724-4444 from your cell phone. The main telephone number for the Police Department is 303-724-2000.

Blue Light Poles

Blue Light poles are located outdoors throughout the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora. These call stations may be used to summon assistance. The blue light on top of the 8’ pole makes them easy to find in parking lots and around the pedestrian areas. The push button on the pole dials directly to your University Police Department. The dispatcher will answer you on the speaker. Please stay by the pole unless circumstances prevent it. A map with the locations can be found at the University Police Emergency Phone Locations. More poles are being installed. When moving around the campus, be aware of the closest pole. Our goal is to ensure there are two Blue Light poles in view from anywhere on the campus once construction is completed.

At the entrances to most buildings at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora are call boxes mounted to the buildings or within pedestals. These devices are telephones. You can contact your police department from any of these devices by pressing the call button, dialing 911 or 44444. The dispatcher will answer you so please stay at the speaker if at all possible.

Every elevator has a call button on the control panel. These buttons are actually direct lines to the University Police Department. The dispatcher will answer you on the speaker. Please stay in the elevator if you can do so safely to communicate the nature of your emergency.

In addition, emergency service telephones have been installed near the elevators in Building 500. In both of the research towers, they are located near the restrooms on every floor as well as the entrance to the bridges. These red phones can be used to contact the police at 911 or 44444, dial any extension on the campuses and (after dialing 9) outside calls. They will not call long distance and will not receive incoming calls. If you frequent these buildings, please take a moment to locate these phones.
