ICD Survey
The purpose of this study is to understand current hospice practice regarding care of patients with implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs). This survey is being done in collaboration with Mount Sinai School of Medicine and the University of Colorado Denver / Population-based Palliative Care Research Network (PoPCRN). Your hospice was randomly selected for survey participation from a national list of hospices provided to us by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO).
Our aim is to better understand your institution’s policy for admitting / caring for patients with ICDs. The data from this survey will be used to help better understand policies for patients with these devices who are near the end of life and to ultimately create a decision tool to improve communication between clinicians and patients and to provide guidance to approaching conversations about the issue of deactivating the potentially painful (i.e. cardioversion / shocking) aspects of ICDs for patients on hospice.
Stay tuned for survey access.
