project overview

Research 1 North & South includes 600,640 gross square feet (gsf) (390,160 net assignable square feet (nasf)) of new research space and will be the basis for the initial UCD research effort at the Anschutz Medical Campus. Included in the Research 1 North & South facilities will be wet laboratories (163,000 nasf), core laboratory space (21,560 nasf), lab support space (108,800 nasf), related faculty office and conferencing space (54,400 nasf), Center for Comparative Medicine (34,000 nasf), and building support space (8,200 nasf).

An essential element of the Research 1 North & South is that it is developed around the concept of prototypical laboratory space with a flexible lab support concept. The laboratories were designed to accommodate almost any research program, while the support space is easily tailored to the needs of individual researchers or disciplines. The space is largely generic and general as opposed to unique laboratory space to ensure flexibility in use and the capability for interchange of space and activities among the various research departments.
