Department of Psychiatry
Division of Clinical Psychology
The University of Colorado Denver (UCD) is located on the Anschutz Medical Campus and the Denver Downtown Campus. The Anschutz Medical Campus includes Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and the Graduate School, which offers Ph.D. and M.S. programs in 21 additional areas of study.
The Division of Psychology was established in 1953 in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. The Division has enjoyed a long history of support from both the Department of Psychiatry and the medical school, and Division faculty members actively contribute to the service, teaching, and scholarly missions of the School of Medicine. Currently, the Division of Psychology is home to 70 regular full time faculty psychologists, with 27 based at the Health Sciences Center campus. Ten Division psychologists reside at the UC Boulder, Colorado Springs, and Denver campuses and the remaining faculty members are located at teaching affiliate institutions (The Children’s Hospital, Denver VA Medical Center, National Jewish Medical and Research Center, and Denver Health Medical Center). Clinical and research collaborations across programs, departments, and institutions abound. There are an additional 30 clinical volunteer faculty who contribute to the psychology and psychiatry training programs and other departmental programs.
Predoctoral and postdoctoral training programs are offered through the Division of Psychology. The Psychology Predoctoral Internship Training program was established in 1952 and has been continuously accredited by the American Psychological Association since 1956. Since that time more than 300 graduate students have participated in the internship. The training program holds a HRSA Graduate Psychology Education Program grant, entitled UCD Integrated Psychology Internship. In addition, the Division offers postdoctoral training in Program Administration and Evaluation and in Developmental Disabilities.
The Training Programs are members of the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC).
