Autism and Developmental Disabilities Research Group
Description of Gastrointestinal Symptoms in Children with Autism Compared to Controls
Project Description
This study began in 2003. Our research team is looking at gastrointestinal symptoms in children diagnosed with autism, Fragile X Syndrome, non-specific developmental delay, and typically developing children. In addition, we are interested in the sleep habits and temperament in these children. Up to 200 local subjects will be enrolled in this research study.
Children and their families participate in an assessment of social and communicative skills, in addition to completing diet and stool diaries. Participants are compensated for their time.
Major Goals
- Describe the gastrointestinal symptoms in children with autism, fragile X syndrome, other developmental disabilities and in controls with typical development.
- Compare gastrointestinal symptoms in children with autism and fragile X syndrome to gastrointestinal symptoms in children with other developmental disorders and controls with typical development.
