Autism and Developmental Disabilities Research Group
Longitudinal Study of The Developing Phenotype of Autism
Project Abstract
This study has been in progress since 1994. Our research team is looking at social, communicative, cognitive, motor, and behavioral development in children with various developmental disabilities, including, but not limited to, Autism or other PDD's, Fragile X, and Downs Syndrome. We are also studying typically-developing children.
We have currently seen more than 200 children between the ages of 2 and 6 and we are now interested in seeing more 6-year old typically developing children as well as children with Autism/Fragile X/Down syndrome between the ages of 8 and 11. Children and their families participate in an in-depth assessment of social, communicative, imitation and play behaviors, in addition to completing cognitive testing and a battery of neuropsychological measures (e.g., executive function, emotional responsivity, motor planning). Participants are compensated for their time.
Major Goals
- Examine development from early to middle childhood in children with various disabilities
- Identify core deficits in specific disabilities
- Improve intervention approaches and theories of development
