Developmental research focuses on early brain development and its relationship with severe mental illnesses. Developmental research hopes to understand how the brain develops from in utero to adolescence. It also helps us understand how brain development is associated with changes in how a child thinks, feels, and acts. We can then use this information to develop and test new treatments to mental illnesses. Our research focuses on children who have or are at-risk for schizophrenia, pregnant women with bipolar disorder or schizophrenia, pregnant women without major diagnoses, and young infants.
