Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship
Eligibility and Application
1. Before entry into the program, applicants must complete or have completed an ACGME accredited psychiatry residency program that qualifies them to sit for the ABPN Psychiatry Board.
2. Applicants must hold US citizenship, a valid US alien resident card or be willing to enter on a J-1 Clinical Visa.
3. Applications for training in the addiction psychiatry fellowship program must include:
- Original graduate transcript(s), when applicable
- Original medical school transcript(s)
- Original Dean's Letter
- Certified copy of medical school diploma
- Documentation of post-graduate medical education completed elsewhere
- Copies of state medical license(s), DEA certificate, board certifications, when applicable
- Documentation of ECFMG certification, when applicable
- Documentation of VISA status, for international applicants
- Curriculum Vitae
- Personal Statement
- Three professional letters of recommendation, one from the psychiatry training director documenting that the applicant meets the eligibility criterion (#1 above)
- Documentation of successful passing scores on USMLE parts 1, 2, and 3.
- Personal interviews with program faculty and house-staff
4. Applications are accepted from graduates of MD and DO programs, and from graduates of equivalent international medical programs who have ECFMG certification or have completed a Fifth Pathway Program and meet the eligibility criterion (#1 above).
5. Applicants must successfully pass a criminal background investigation (criteria specified in UCD and GMEC background investigation policies).
6. A Resident Selection Committee evaluates all eligible applicants. Applicants are evaluated on the basis of their preparedness and experience; academic credentials; ability and aptitude; communication and interpersonal skills, and, on personal qualities such as integrity, learning motivation, and work ethic.
7. Applicants for the addiction psychiatry program should download and submit the formal application form via email and mail as instructed on the form. The application form must be typed, not hand-written, and must be accompanied by a small (2" x 2") face photo of the applicant.
