Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Residency
Curriculum
Our curriculum covers two years in which the first year clinical and didactic experiences addresses essential skills and the second year allows the resident to use the block of elective time to gain intensive experiences in specific clinical, administrative and/or research areas.
Didactic Curriculum - Year I & II
The educational cycle is divided into a summer session from July to September and a September to June session. Classes and Seminars are taught by a diverse faculty group. Classes are held at University of Colorado Hospital or the The Children's Hospital campuses. Participants from the UCH and TCH psychology intern programs/the Harris Fellowship, (Infant Mental Health), programs add to the educational clinical experience.
Core Curriculum Focus Areas - Year I & II

Psychotherapy - A two year course that overviews various psychotherapeutic approaches (cognitive, behavioral, planned short-term), while highlighting an introduction to psychodynamic, child and adolescent psychotherapy.

Case Conference - First year residents meet in one section for introductory and foundational issues, while second year residents meet in the other section for more advanced issues. The focus is on application of technical points of maintaining a clinical practice, psychotherapy principles in practice and evidenced based case review from controlled interviewing seminar.

Family Therapy - A “child guidance” model of live patient interviewing is utilized

Training in use of DC 0-3 system & Family Care Rounds - A summer seminar featuring education on use of DC 0-3 diagnostic system and the live interview of a newly delivered mother identified as "high risk" for abuse, neglect or bonding/attachment difficulties.
