Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship
About the program
The geriatric population is quickly expanding and training capable psychiatrists to meet this group's growing mental health needs is an important priority. Our program supports this goal with a commitment to provide the necessary foundation in geriatric care. Upon completion of the program, our fellows will be trained to provide consultation, interpret research, and serve as educators in the field of geriatric psychiatry. We offer a broad range of clinical and didactic experiences to develop skills in the assessment and treatment of older adults. A primarily VA based program, we provide fellows with interdisciplinary opportunities across inpatient, outpatient, and long term care settings.
The Denver VA Medical Center serves a large geographic area and developments in telepsychiatry have allowed us to expand our resources to more remote areas of Colorado, Wyoming, and eventually to parts of Montana that would otherwise have a disparity of care. This experience provides fellows with a unique training opportunity in meeting the needs of an underserved geriatric population.
