Psychosomatic Medicine Fellowship

Eligibility and Application

1. Before entry into the program, applicants must complete or have completed an ACGME accredited psychiatry residency program that qualifies them to sit for the ABPN Psychiatry Board.

2. Applicants to our program must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or possess the appropriate documentation to allow them to legally train at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine.

3. Applications for training in the psychosomatic medicine fellowship program must include:

  1. Original graduate transcript(s), when applicable
  2. Original medical school transcript(s)
  3. Original Dean's Letter
  4. Certified copy of medical school diploma
  5. Documentation of post-graduate medical education completed elsewhere
  6. Copies of state medical license(s), DEA certificate, board certifications, when applicable
  7. Documentation of ECFMG certification, when applicable
  8. Documentation of VISA status, for international applicants
  9. Curriculum Vitae
  10. Personal Statement
  11. Three professional letters of recommendation, one must be from the psychiatry training director documenting that the applicant meets the eligibility criterion (#1 above). If applying while still a resident in a psychiatry training program, please provide the three professional letters of recommendation and a fourth to be from your current training director.
  12. Documentation of successful passing scores on USMLE parts 1, 2, and 3.
  13. Personal interviews with program faculty and house-staff

4. Applications are accepted from graduates of MD and DO programs, and from graduates of equivalent international medical programs who have ECFMG certification or have completed a Fifth Pathway Program and meet the eligibility criterion (#1 above).

5. Applicants must successfully pass a criminal background investigation (criteria specified in UCD and GMEC background investigation policies).

6. A Resident Selection Committee evaluates all eligible applicants. Applicants are evaluated on the basis of their preparedness and experience; academic credentials; ability and aptitude; communication and interpersonal skills, and, on personal qualities such as integrity, learning motivation, and work ethic.

7. Applicants for the forensic psychiatry program should download and submit the formal application form via email and mail as instructed on the form. The application form must be typed, not hand-written, and must be accompanied by a small (2" x 2") face photo of the applicant.
