Title: Substance Dependent Adolescents: Imaging Risk-Taking
The objective of this research is to better understand whether substances diminish the capacity to inhibit behavior by altering brain processing of risky decisions, or do pre-existing, anatomically-based variations of brain processing produce risk-taking propensities, or both.

Title: Martial Arts As Early Intervention for Teen Drug Abuse
This is a Stage 1A/1B behavioral therapies development grant with the primary aims of developing a manualized early intervention for adolescent substance abuse (based on traditional martial arts) and then conducting a pilot study in order to estimate the effect size of the intervention and provide information for estimating power for a larger randomized controlled trial.

Title: The Increasing Disparity In Illegal Drug Use Across Socioeconomic Strata
This project focuses on the increasing disparity in illegal drug use/dependence across socioeconomic strata in recent decades, seeking first to document socioeconomic trends in drugs other than cocaine and update socioeconomic trends in illegal drug use past 1998. Second, the project will evaluate changes in the prevalence of illegal drugs over time and also changes in the characteristics of illegal drug users over time using a "Diffusion of Innovation" framework. Finally, the project will trace the extent to which the key predictors of illegal drug use have their roots in the early life course.

Title: Genetics of Adolescent Antisocial Drug Dependence (COMRAD)
This COMRAD proposal continues a multi-site collaboration, initiated under DA012845, to conduct a prospective study to address critical issues in the genetic epidemiology of adolescent onset antisocial drug dependence. We will complete five year follow-up assessments, examine drug use and antisocial behavior trajectories and their predictors, and we will conduct genome wide association analyses of persistent adolescent-onset antisocial drug dependence.

Title: Bupropion for ADHD in Adolescents with Substance Use Disorders
The primary aims of this study are: 1) To assess the safety and efficacy of bupropion versus placebo in treating ADHD in adolescents with SUD; 2) To assess the safety and efficacy of bupropion versus placebo in reducing nicotine use in adolescents with ADHD and SUD. Secondary Aims: 3) To evaluate the impact of bupropion versus placebo on non-nicotine drug use (including cannabis); 4) To evaluate the impact of bupropion versus placebo on depressive symptoms in the subsample who meet DSM-IV criteria for major depressive disorder (MDD).
