Current & Ongoing Research Support

Title: Asian teens, substance dependence, and conduct disorder
The major goals of this project are to help the PI to develop skills in behavioral genetic research methodology, and to collect a unique sample of Asian adolescents with conduct disorder, their first-degree family members and adolescent controls.

This sponsored research agreement supported testing of a light-weight transdermal alcohol monitoring system both in controlled laboratory conditions and with community participants.

Educational Activities

Medical Students:
Psych 8001, tutor, MS-IV student elective. – The “Big Six” Substance Problems of Primary Care Medicine, This is a 2 - 4 week full-time elective course for 3rd and 4th year medical students. It aims to introduce students to the detection, evaluation, and treatment of the most important substance Issues in primary care medicine.

MED 8029 – MS-IV Clinical Psychopharmacology, lecturer

Experiential Learning Module about AA and other 12-step programs – faculty

Psychiatry Scholars Program, Division Faculty serve as mentors to medical students wishing to fulfill their independent learning requirement.

Psychiatric Residents
PGY-I, 6 lecture hours regarding substance use disorders

PGY-III, lecturer in the core course - Introduction to Substance Dependence. This course meets for 1 hr / week for 10 weeks each year. Teachers are faculty in the Division of Substance Dependence and community practitioners. Scheduled Lectures in 2007.

Opportunities for Research Participation of Medical Students and Residents
Medical Students: In the Division’s research elective, Psychiatry 8610, or Psychiatry Scholars Program, students will work on projects currently pursued by Division faculty, or in associated labs on the CU-Boulder campus.

Residents: Residents are welcomed and encouraged to approach Division faculty regarding mentorship and participation in research projects ongoing in the Division.
