About the Program—Clinical Affiliations

Clinical affiliations provide students with opportunities to apply the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors presented in the classroom to the clinical setting under the supervision and guidance of experienced physical therapist clinicians. In clinical learning environments, students develop safe, effective skills in all aspects of patient management, interpersonal relations and professional conduct.

Consistent with the Program’s mission of creating a “generalist” physical therapist, the clinical education component, which consists of 44 weeks of off-site experiences, is designed to provide students with a variety of exposure to a variety of practice settings and to a wide-ranging patient population.

Currently, the University of Colorado Physical Therapy Program affiliates with hundreds of clinical sites throughout Colorado and the United States, including some international sites. Opportunities exist in all areas of practice, across the continuum of care, and with patients of all ages, abilities, and types of conditions. As the delivery of physical therapy services is ever-changing, the Program actively seeks new clinical opportunities to best prepare graduates for current and future practice.
