Admissions—Entry-Level Doctor of Physical Therapy
The
University of Colorado Physical Therapy Program
accepts a new class of students every summer. Applicants for admission to the Program in 2009 may apply online via the NEW Physical Therapist Centralized Application Service (PTCAS) which is available from August 1st through November 14, 2008.
Our Admissions Committeee will invite the most qualified applicants to interview in early 2009. Notification of acceptance occurs in the Spring. Please contact our admissions advisor, Betti Krapfl, for additional information.
General Prerequisites
- Baccalaureate degree
- GRE
- 500 on verbal & quantitative assessments
- 3.5 written assessment
- Cumulative GPA 3.0, Science GPA 3.0
- Three references
- On-campus Interview
- CPR (Health Professional) certification
- 45 hours of field work in three settings:
- Acute in-patient setting (15hrs.)
- Out-patient setting (15hrs.)
- Long-term care facility (15hrs.)
Prerequisite Course Work for Science Majors
- 8 semester hours of General Chemistry with labs
- 8 semester hours of Physics with labs
- 4 semester hours of Human or Vertebrate Anatomy
- 4 semester hours of Upper Division Human Physiology
- 6 semester hours of Psychology or Sociology (Abnormal Psychology and Developmental Psychology are suggested)
- 3 semester hours of Mathematics (Statistics, Calculus, or Upper Division Math)
- 3 semester hours of Upper Division Basic Sciences
The following prerequisite courses are strongly recommended:
- 3 semester hours of Biochemistry
- 3 semester hours of Organic Chemistry
Application may be submitted without completing all prerequisite coursework, but an admission decision will not be made until all but six semester hours of prerequisite credits are successfully completed. If prerequisite science courses are older than five years, an additional six semester hours of Upper Division basic science coursework must be completed. Combined Human Anatomy & Physiology courses are not accepted. Prerequisite courses must be completed prior to matriculation. Courses completed with a C-minus or below are not acceptable.
