Transition Doctor of Physical Therapy

The University of Colorado Transition DPT Program is specifically designed to assist practicing clinicians to update their knowledge and skills and solidify their basis as practitioners in the doctoring profession of physical therapy.  Drawing upon their professional experience, students in the transition DPT Program expand their core knowledge and decision making skills through onsite coursework, independent study, and on-line learning.

Course content focuses on topics that were not included in entry-level PT programs prior to the DPT degree, or topics that are considered essential core knowledge for physical therapists operating as primary care practitioners.  These include current information on evidence-based practice, pharmacology, radiology, differential diagnosis and health promotion.

Our Transition DPT program is designed for the working student.  Some of the courses are offered entirely on-line, while others meet only for one or two days during the semester.  We attempt to use block scheduling to minimize student’s time away from their current site of practice.

Physical Therapists who are accepted to the Transition DPT Program have three years from the time of admission to complete all program requirements, however many students elect to complete the program sooner.

Admission requirements include:

  • Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy Program
  • Completed Transition DPT Program Application forms
  • Essay describing personal goals and objectives related to the Transition DPT Program
  • Transcripts for all degrees and courses accrued outside of UCD
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Computer literacy
  • Proof of current U. S. physical therapy licensure
