The University of Colorado Hospital and affiliate hospitals in the Denver
metropolitan
area will provide facilities for clinical training of students in
conjunction with a centralized didactic
program based at the University of Colorado Hospital.
The
clinical and didactic programs are set up to provide sufficient instruction
of ultrasound to assure
adequate opportunity to acquire needed entry-level
knowledge and skills necessary to pass the national registry
examination in the areas
covered. The program curriculum will encompass classroom instruction, laboratory
training, and hands-on experience.
Faculty:
Educational Coordinator:
James Cacari,
BS RT RVT RDMS
Medical Director: Elizabeth Stamm, M.D., Associate Professor, Division
of
Body Imaging
Program length:
Twelve months, beginning every
September.
This is subject to change as the requirements for accreditation
change.
Housing:
Housing is the responsibility of the
student. It is recommended that students locate near their assigned clinical
site, if at all possible. The University of Colorado Denver
housing office may be able to assist students in locating
housing, upon
request.
Meals:
Students are responsible for their own
meals. Each hospital has a cafeteria that will be accessible, and there are many
food facilities in the
immediate area of each hospital.
Textbooks:
Recommended textbooks can
be obtained
at the University Bookstore located on the Fitzsimmons campus.
Health
Requirements:
Applicants must present
evidence of good health and be able to meet the
physical requirements of the
program including lifting and positioning of patients, and manipulating
all
ultrasound equipment. Health insurance is not available through the program, and
students are required
to present a copy of their insurance information at their
orientation. It is suggested that students have
up-to-date vaccinations,
particularly rubella and hepatitis B, since all clinical affiliates are
inpatient
facilities. Current CPR certification is required.
Attire:
Class day attire is business casual. Clinical
attire is to be professional and is determined by each affiliate. Students will
receive this information at their orientation in September.
