FOR PROGRAM CANDIDATES

Subject to enrollment and verification of eligibility, the following benefits are available to Houseofficers through the University of Colorado Graduate Medical Education.

HEALTH INSURANCE

Premiums paid for houseofficer and dependents
· In or out-of-network reimbursement options
· Prescription drug program
· No pre-existing conditions clause

DENTAL INSURANCE

Premiums paid for houseofficer and dependents
· Preventive, basic and major dental service levels
· Deductible ($25.00 per person/$50.00 per family) waived for preventive services

DISABILITY INSURANCE

Premiums paid for houseofficer only
· $2,500 per month benefit beginning the 91st day of disability
· Monthly benefits for partial, total and permanent disability
· If totally and permanently disabled, lump sum benefit, survivor benefit, repayment of all eligible education debt up to $150,000.
· Premiums paid. Coverage available to houseofficer only.

LIFE INSURANCE

Premiums paid for houseofficer only
· $50,000 term life insurance
· Additional $50,000 for accidental death or dismemberment
· Terminally ill accelerated benefits
· Premiums paid. Policy available to houseofficer only.

VISION
Optional vision plan with nationwide company is available to houseofficers and their dependents through payroll deduction.

REIMBURSEMENT ACCOUNTS
Houseofficers have the option to participate in a tax-savings plan offered through the University of Colorado. Dependent care expenses (maximum $5,000 pre-tax dollars contribution/year) or health care expenses not covered by insurance (maximum $3,000 pre-tax dollars contribution/year) may be reimbursed from this account to reduce taxable income and increase take-home pay.

TAX DEFERRED ANNUITY PROGRAM
Houseofficers with the University of Colorado Graduate Medical Education are eligible to participate in an optional 403(b)(1) or 403(b)(7) tax-deferred investment program.
· Opportunity to invest towards retirement in addition to social security
· No income taxes on investment or interest earned until money is withdrawn from the investment program
· Reduce current taxable income

PROFESSIONAL LIABILITY COVERAGE
University of Colorado Graduate Medical Education houseofficers have professional liability coverage for acts within the course and scope of their Graduate Medical Education responsibilities.

LEAVE
Vacation
· Houseofficers are granted 21 calendar days of paid vacation per year.
Educational
· Houseofficers beyond PGY-I receive up to seven calendar days for paid educational leave.
Leave of absence
· For family and/or medical related leave of absence, housestaff who have been in a UCD GME program for at least 12 months, may be granted up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave during a 12-month period. Other leaves of absence are determined on a case-by-case basis.
