Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics

Message from the Chairman

Our Department has grown immensely over the past decade to become a premier biomedical research center. The Department's traditional strengths have been complemented by the addition of many new faculty members. We have expertise in many important areas of biomedical research including Informational molecular biology and genetics (regulation of gene expression, chromatin structure, chromosome maintenance, cell cycle control and cancer biology) and Protein and nucleic acid structure and function. Our faculty members are also members of several strong, interdepartmental programs including Molecular Biology, Biomolecular Structure, Neuroscience, Cancer Center and Human Genetics.

We strive towards providing a stimulating research and educational environment for students to succeed. Our laboratories are located on both the 9th and 10th floors of the Research Complex 1 (RC-1) South Building at the new Fitzsimons Campus. All high tech facilities in the RC-1 complex are in accordance to the most recent NIH government standards. This includes the superb core lab facilities directed by the NCI-funded Cancer Center and the Biomolecular Structure programs.

In the next few years, we will continue to see our beautiful mountain-view campus grow and expand to become a real force in biomedical research. Come and expand your horizons. Remember what Francis Bacon said, "Knowledge itself is Power" (nam et ipsa scientia potestas est). I encourage all prospective students and postdocs interested in our Department to contact and visit us.

Sincerely,

Bob Sclafani

Professor and Chair
