The
University of Colorado's Center for Human Simulation (CHS)
occasionally has funding for one-year fellowships in "Computer
Science applied to Anatomic Simulation".
Since
creating the Visible Human Male and Female, the CHS has lead
the world in methods to interact with it. Our Surgery, Ophthalmology,
Dental and Anesthesiology prototypes combine haptics and graphics
models developed directly from the Visible Human (and similar
datasets) to create the look and feel of palpation, needle
insertion and surgical cutting.
The
CHS has recently acquired two completely furnished operating
rooms as well as considerable surrounding space and a new,
fully functional pathology lab. Briefly stated, our intent
is to provide a flexible environment where many medical specialists
train in settings that traditionally required live subjects.
To
meet this objective the CHS is building a growing force of
career track computer scientists and engineers. The fellowships
are designed to give individuals the skills to make them indispensable
to the CHS or other organizations in this burgeoning field.
Fellows
will learn the state of the art in Surgical
Simulation while also helping to advance it.
Duties of the fellows will be split collaborating with engineers
and scientists on a daily basis and working on a project of
their own.
Example
projects of interest to the CHS include:
- FEM
for accurate deformation of anatomic structures.
- Detection
algorithms for more automatic Segmentation
and Classification of Visible Human type
data.
- Overall
software design for generic interaction with virtual anatomy.
- Improved
methods for creating texture mapped polygonal models directly
from Visible Human type data.
Qualified
candidates will have at least a BS in computer science as
well as experience with C++. Course work and/or experience
with 3-D computer graphics and GUI's is highly desirable.
Pay
will be commensurate with experience and ability.
To
apply, submit resume and name/phone number of three references
to Karl
Reinig.
Please include date of availability.
The
University of Colorado Health Sciences Center is committed
to equal opportunity and affirmative action.
