Farzin Imani received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Tehran University of Medical Sciences in 1991.  He is currently working on a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Bioinformatics at the University of Colorado Denver (UCD). While working on a project involving Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) Simulation with Dr. Yang Chen, Professor of Medicine and Chief of Endoscopy at University of Colorado Hospital (UCH), the lack of an effective teaching tool for training physicians interested in learning EUS became apparent.  In this context, Dr. Imani is now completing a doctoral dissertation on "Simulation of Medical Ultrasound Images utilizing Visible Human Datasets."   The primary focus of this thesis is to generate real-time simulated ultrasound images by applying the physics of ultrasound to segmented visible human datasets based on specific ultrasound characteristics of each tissue type.  The thesis committee, headed by Dr. Yang Chen, include UCD faculty Dr. Vic Spitzer, director of Center for Human Simulation, Dr. Ann Scherzinger, chief of Division of Radiological Sciences, and Dr. Dennis Lezotte, Professor and assistant director of Medical Informatics.
