LAY SUMMARY OF RESEARCH OBJECTIVES:
The liver is the primary site for regulation of total body cholesterol. Common diseases, such as atherosclerosis and cholesterol gallstones, may be a direct result of altered liver cholesterol metabolism. A major thrust of our research effort is to further elucidate mechanisms of liver regulation of cholesterol metabolism. Additional research efforts are directed toward the broad range of clinical disorders of the liver including viral hepatitis and liver transplantation.
