Clinical Care

"One of the essential qualities of the clinician is interest in humanity, for the secret of the care for the patient is in caring for the patient."

Frances Weld Peabody
The Care of the Patient
JAMA 88:877, 1927

Clinical care is provided at the five hospitals affiliated with our training program: University of Colorado Hospital; Veterans Affairs Medical Center; Denver Health Medical Center; Rose Medical Center and Presbyterian/St. Luke's Hospital. Active hospitalist programs that play key roles in our patient care and educational programs are operational and being expanded at each of these five core hospitals. Experiences at these centers insure exposure to diverse clinical challenges, patient populations and practice settings.

The University of Colorado Health Sciences Center is excited about the ongoing development of a new campus at the former Fitzsimons Army Base in Aurora, Colorado. This new campus is located about 20 minutes east of our current campus at 4200 E. Ninth Ave. At present several University of Colorado Hospital and School of Medicine administrative offices, a new seven story ambulatory clinic, a new eye center and a new ambulatory cancer center as well as several research programs are operational at this site. A new 106-bed community hospital, staffed by Department of Medicine hospitalists, opened in March, 2004 and currently houses our Oncology unit as well as general medical/surgical beds, a 24/7 cardiac catheterization laboratory, and an intensive care unit.  University Hospital plans to move from its current site in Denver, to 380 new beds at the Fitzsimons campus in April, 2007.
