Bryan C. Bergman, PhD Assistant Professor

Dr. Bergman received his undergraduate from the University of Wyoming , and Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley in Exercise Physiology. His doctoral work investigated how endurance exercise training changes glucose, fat, and lactate use during exercise. He went to the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center for a post-doctoral fellowship in Jim Hill's lab, where he investigated the interaction of exercise, obesity, and insulin action. Dr. Bergman is currently funded by an NIH K award, and is an assistant professor. His research focuses on how intramuscular lipid influences the development of type II diabetes. Dr. Bergman is trying to understand the paradox where in diabetics, high levels of intramuscular lipid are associated with insulin resistance, whereas athletes remain insulin sensitive with a similar amount of intramuscular lipid. Dr. Bergman works in Robert Eckel's laboratory at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.
