Faculty Profile

Edward Melanson, Ph.D., FACSM, Assistant Professor of Medicine

Dr. Melanson began his research career as a post-doctoral fellow in the Center for Human Nutrition in 1998, and received a faculty appointment in the Division in 2003. His research interests are the effects of diet, exercise, and obesity on substrate metabolism and energy expenditure. Currently, Dr. Melanson is performing studies on the effects of different intensities of exercise and manipulations in dietary fat on fat oxidation. He has also performed several studies aimed at understanding the effects the effects of dietary calcium on fat metabolism.

Dr. Melanson is an Assistant Director of the Energy Balance Core Lab. In this capacity, he oversees the operation of the whole-room calorimeter, located on the General Clinical Research Center (GCRC). He is also overseeing the planning and construction for the room calorimeter to be housed in the new GCRC on the Fitzsimmons campus.
