Health Insurance
Premiums paid for resident and dependents
- In or out-of-network reimbursement options

- No pre-existing conditions clause
Dental Insurance
Premiums paid for resident and dependents
- Preventive, basic and major dental service levels
- Deductible ($25.00 per person/$50.00 per family) waived for preventive services
Long Term Disability Insurance
Premiums paid for resident only
- Monthly disability benefits payable beginning the 91st day of disability
- Monthly benefit amount based on PGY level and ranges from $3000-$4000
- Premiums paid. Coverage available to resident only.
Life Insurance
Premiums paid for resident only
- $50,000 term life insurance
- Additional $50,000 for accidental death or dismemberment
- Terminally ill accelerated benefits
- Premiums paid. Policy available to resident only.
Vision
An optional vision plan with a nationwide company is available to residents and their dependents through payroll deduction.
Reimbursment Accounts
Optional participation in the CU Flex Plan, an IRS Section 125 Flexible benefit plan, is available. This reduces taxable income by allowing payment for eligible out-of-pocket health care and/or dependent care expenses from a pre-tax account. Dependent care expenses (maximum $5,000 pre-tax dollars contribution/year) or health care expenses not covered by insurance (maximum $6,000 pre-tax dollars contribution/year as of January 2005) may be reimbursed from this account to reduce taxable income and increase take-home pay.
Tax Defered Annuity Program
Residents with the University of Colorado Graduate Medical Education are eligible to participate in an optional 403 and/or 457 tax-deferred investment program.

- Reduce current taxable income
Professional Liability Coverage
University of Colorado Graduate Medical Education residents have professional liability coverage for acts within the course and scope of their Graduate Medical Education responsibilities.
Leave
Vacation
- Residents are granted 21 calendar days of paid vacation per year.
Educational - Residents beyond PGY-I receive up to seven calendar days for paid educational leave.
Leave of absence
- For family and/or medical related leave of absence, residents may be granted up to 12 weeks of leave during a 12-month period. Other leaves of absence are determined on a case-by-case basis.

Malpractice Insurance and Professional Liability Coverage
As members of the University of Colorado School of Medicine Housestaff, you are covered for acts within the course and scope of your employment with the CU-Health Sciences Center. This coverage would include the practice of approved residency activities at the University of Colorado Hospital, at any affiliate institution and at any out-of-state institution (with prior approval of department and Associate Dean of GME) as part of your educational program. Professional liability coverage is provided to residents as a benefit of employment.

Educational Stipend
Second and third year internal medicine residents will be allotted an annual stipend of approximately $150 (variable by year) for educational expenses.
