Residency Training Categorical Program

The categorical program is the backbone of our residency. The program emphasizes outstanding clinical training in diverse patient care settings with graduated responsibility and a supportive educational structure. In addition to required inpatient rotations, all residents complete two months of float, a geriatrics rotation, an ambulatory care rotation, a neurology rotation and emergency medicine. The program features increasing flexibility and elective time with each successive year. This flexibility allows residents to pursue a myriad of electives in medicine subspecialties and a variety of other relevant areas.

Residents are well prepared for fellowship training or to enter the physician workforce after completing the categorical program. From this strong clinical base, residents can tailor their education based on their interests and career goals within the categorical program or they may opt into one of our more focused educational offerings: primary care, hospitalist medicine or research.
