Dear MSTP Directors:
An exciting program has been scheduled for the 1998 MD/PhD Program
Directors' National Conference. A copy of the agenda
is available here. Highlights include discussions with key individuals from
the Association of American Medical Colleges regarding the role of MSTPs in U.S.
medical education. Dr. Michael Brown will lead a discussion on the "Challenges
in patient-oriented research." Dr. Bert Shapiro has exciting MSTP outcomes
data spanning over 30 years to present. In addition, we will hold the annual
business meeting for the National MD/PhD Program Directors Association. This
year we would like to conduct working groups to identify the salient points for
discussion. The groups will meet initially Sunday evening and then report to
the entire group on Monday afternoon. Volunteers are needed to chair the
working groups, and suggestions are welcome for additional working group topics.
A Program Coordinators' Conference will be held during the Directors'
Conference. Conference fees for each conference (student, director, and program
coordinator) are $150 per person. Robin Downing, Program Coordinator for
Southwestern University is planning the Coordinators' Conference. She can be
reached at 1-800-633-6787 to answer any additional questions about the Program
Coordinators' Conference.
The Directors' Conference will begin at 4:00 pm on Saturday, July 18, and
will run through Monday, July 20, 1998 in beautiful Aspen, Colorado. You can
