On behalf of the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Colorado Denver, we invite you to participate in the 13th Annual National MD/PhD Student Conference to be held in Aspen, Colorado on July 17-19, 1998. This conference offers a wonderful opportunity for students in MD/PhD programs from throughout the country to share scientific ideas and discuss career goals with a diverse panel of peers, program graduates, program directors and invited speakers. In its (unlucky?) thirteenth year, the conference is now established as a consistent attraction for bright young scientists and prominent researchers alike. It remains the only national conference organized by and for MD/PhD students. Participants from previous years will notice something different about this year's conference: no title. We feel that this reflects the direction in which the conference has been headed for the last few years. MD/PhD students are involved in research in a vast number of fields and the MD/PhD student conference should be of interest to all (or at least most) of them. The conference should provide a general forum to allow interaction of the highest caliber students and investigators. Accordingly, we have invited a group of internationally distinguished speakers from a variety of fields. The list of speakers includes Michael Brown, Carol Greider, Mark Groudine, Mary-Claire King, Richard Klausner, and Michael Welsh. In addition to talks by these renowned scientists, the conference will feature student oral presentations and poster sessions. The conference will also include a panel of MD/PhD program graduates who have been asked to discuss careeer paths and other issues of importance to MD/PhD students. In addition, the National MD/PhD Directors Conference will be held partially in conjunction with the student conference from July 18-20. The registration fee for each conference, including food, is $150.00. (Note: The registration fee does not cover housing, travel, or recreation activities.) Attendees of the conferences will also have the opportunity to enjoy the spectacular mountain setting of the Aspen area. Time will be available during the conferences for hiking, mountain biking, river rafting, shopping, and other activities. Because it was so successful last year registration for this year's student and directors conferences will again take place on the web. The registration deadline for both meetings is May 31st. Registration for the student conference will be limited to 125 people, so register early! Questions regarding the student conference should be directed to Josh Hall at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and questions about the directors conference should be sent to Sue O'Dorisio. In the past, the MD/PhD student conference has been rewarding and fun for those who have participated. We hope you will join us in Aspen this summer for what will be the best MD/PhD conference yet. Sincerely, |
