Research Intensive Residency Program Sponsors

The Medical Genetics Residency Training Program at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston is designed to prepare individuals for a physician-scientist career by providing an integrated experience in both clinical and experimental genetics. The four-year residency prepares the trainee to care for both pediatric and adult patients with genetic diseases, and to develop a research focus in a chosen area of medical genetics. The first two years of the program include experiences in both pediatrics and internal medicine and the last two years consist of inpatient and outpatient rotations in genetics as well as six months of research time. The various clinics and inpatient consults amount to well over 4000 patient encounters yearly. The Department of Molecular and Human Genetics is consistently ranked #1 in NIH funding and our trainees have an exceptional track record for obtaining research training awards (NIH K08 and K23 grants as well as private funding sources) that provide funding for salary and research to facilitate the transition from resident to junior faculty.
