Scientific Interests
Collaborative work is available with many other faculty members in the Department of Pediatrics, and
in the School of Medicine, with particularly strong ties to the UCHSC
Nutrition Center, the Pediatric
Critical Care - Pulmonology SCOR Grant in Neonatal Pulmonary Hypertension, and the Pediatric
Heart Lung Center.
The major emphases of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine/Obstetrics Perinatal Service are in
utero fetal diagnosis (Dr. Henry Galan) and the diagnosis and treatment of perinatal
infectious diseases with particular emphasis on studying their relation to premature labor and
delivery (Dr. Ronald Gibbs). Training in transport, special ventilation techniques, and ECMO are
available as part of clinical practice and selected research projects. Five research nurses staff
the Neonatal Clinical Research Center (part of the NIH-Pediatrics Department CRC) and assist with
all clinical research.
