Josette Harris, Ph.D. (303) 315-4610
Josette.Harris@uchsc.eduDr. Harris' research is directed toward the study of cultural and linguistic variables that have an influence on memory and cognition. Her studies include normal ethnic and linguistic populations and individuals with schizophrenia. In the past, Dr. Harris' studies have described strategies and patterns of learning and memory in normal Spanish- and English-speaking monolingual and bilingual adults. Research has also emphasized specific properties of the Spanish language that influence working memory and encoding of information. More recently, studies have focused on possible differential cognitive deficits in monolingual versus bilingual individuals with schizophrenia. Other studies have included the investigation of heritable cognitive deficits associated with schizophrenia. Dr. Harris has an interest in the application of her empirical findings to the test development and the clinical assessment of ethnic and linguistic minorities.
