| Overview
The Department of Radiation Oncology is primarily located at the new Anschutz Cancer Pavilion at the site of the decommisioned Fitzsimon's Army Medical Center. A small satellite clinic is also located at the University's 9th Avenue campus. The Department treats an average of 900 new patients a year on three linear accelerators and is proud to now offer Novalis Beam Shaped Radiosurgery. We currently have six board certified radiation oncologists supported by a technical staff of four radiation physicists, five medical dosimetrists, and eleven radiation therapists.
In addition to traditional external beam therapy, the Department also performs brachytherapy for prostate cancer (both permanent seed and temporary HDR implants), gynecological cancer, breast cancer (using the new FDA approved MammoSite device), and brain tumors (using the GliaSite device). In collaboration with Interventional Cardiology, we also offer brachytherapy for in-stent restenosis using the Novoste BetaCath device.
The Department is heavily involved in research, ranging from in-house protocols to collaborative group efforts such as RTOG and SWOG.
