The Hall of Life Health Education Center
At the Denver Museum of Nature & Science

Celebrating over 25 Years of Health Education

Mission

To provide to people of all ages innovative exhibits and dynamic educational programs that teach how the body functions, that motivate positive health choices, and that emphasize the role of personal responsibility in matters of health and physical fitness.

History

Created to fill a community need in Colorado, where health is not a mandated subject, the Hall of Life was founded as an independent non-profit agency in 1975. Housed in the Blue Cross Blue Shield building until 1987, it then became part of the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. The Hall of Life currently has four classrooms and 10,000 square feet of interactive health exhibits at DMNH. The Hall of Life has served over 5 million people since it began.

Audience

Hall of Life provides health programs to over 250,000 annually while around 300,000 visit our permanent health exhibit hall at the Museum. While we offers programs for all ages from preschoolers to adults, 85% of our program participants are school age youth grades K-12. Statewide accessibility to health information is provided through outreach at schools in Colorado. This program makes up approximately 60% of our total school program audience.

Programs

HOL provides unique, hands-on, object-based, participatory learning experiences in a variety of formats:

  • Classes
  • Learning Labs
  • Health Fair Displays
  • Saturday and Summer Workshops
  • Teacher Training
  • Parent Programs

Actual medical specimens, high quality models, and one-of-a-kind exhibits make HOL's health programs come alive, creating memorable lessons on how personal lifestyle choices impact health.

Future

Continued audience growth, discoveries in the health sciences, and new delivery technologies will create exciting opportunities for innovation and renewal in HOL during the next decade. Watch us grow and change to meet the health information needs of Colorado.
