Bio

Martin Koyle, MD, who was born in Canada, graduated from medical school at the University of Manitoba in 1976. After medical school, Dr. Koyle did surgical residency training at Los Angeles County - USC Medical Center. He commenced his urological training in 1980 at the Harvard Program in Urology in Boston. During the 1981-82 academic year, Dr. Koyle was a Fellow in Organ Transplantation in a joint program sponsored by the University of California, Davis (Pacific Medical Center) and the Harvard Program in Urology.

He returned to Boston in 1982 where he completed his urology residency at the Harvard Program in Urology ( Brigham and Womens Hospital, Beth Israel, West Roxbury VA Medical Center, and the Children’s Hospital), where he served as Chief Resident in 1983-1984.

Upon graduation, Dr. Koyle returned to California where he joined the faculty of the School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles, as Assistant Professor of Surgery/Urology in 1984. At that time he was also appointed Associate Chief, Division of Urology and Director of Pediatric Urology and Renal Transplantation at Harbor/UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Koyle was recruited to the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 1989 at the rank of Associate Professor of Surgery/Urology (with tenure) and concurrently was appointed Chairman of the Department of Pediatric Urology at The Children's Hospital in Denver, CO. In 1996, Dr. Koyle was promoted to the rank of Professor of Surgery/Urology (with tenure).

Dr. Koyle's clinical practice includes all aspects pediatric urology with special emphasis in the areas of urological tumors, male/female GU reconstructive surgery, andrology, intersex, renal transplantation, neonatal and prenatal urology, neurourology/incontinence, and reflux and infections. He was the first surgeon in the world to report on laparoscopic nephrectomy in the infant, and was the first surgeon in America to embrace and pioneer the MACE procedure for stool incontinence and the Bianchi technique of a single incision for orchidopexy. Along with other colleagues he has also popularized the incised urethral plate urethroplasty for hypospadias repair and laparoscopic orchidopexy for the high undescended testicle. Dr. Koyle writes and lectures extensively and has over 125 book chapters, monographs, and peer reviewed journal publications to his credit, as well numerous national and international visiting professorships and lectureships. He is very active in many professional societies and is President-elect of the Society for Pediatric Urology and Secretary-Treasurer of the American Association for Pediatric Urology. Dr. Koyle has a strong involvement with the pro-bono groups, Physicians for Peace and Interplast and has had made several medical missions on their behalf to the middle east in particular the West Bank and Gaza, Egypt and Israel.
