About Webb-Waring and ARDS

David Fitzgerald
1978-1994

Ten days into David's illness, Brian Fitzgerald contacted me in the hope that I could provide some knowledge and assistance about ARDS, a disease which I and other scientists have studied here for many years.

I communicated with Mr. Fitzgerald daily and because I had come to know David well through his father's loving eyes, it was a very difficult time for me when David could no longer fight this disease.

The thread that binds David to Webb-Waring is our continuing research to determine the causes and to predict the onset of ARDS so that effective treatment and prevention strategies can be found and given much earlier.

I wish that I could have given David more. His valiant efforts and the dedication of his devoted father serve as a daily inspiration for our research and a reminder of the importance of new knowledge to all of us, especially those of us who are fortunate enough to be parents.

John E. Repine, M.D.
