Message From Dr. Denise Kassebaum

Welcome to the University of Colorado Denver (UCD) School of Dental Medicine's new website. I am glad you are visiting us.

Whether you are a prospective applicant to one of our many educational programs, a potential candidate for a faculty position on our distinguished faculty, a new patient in the UCD School of Dental Medicine's comprehensive dental or dental specialty clinics, a member of the University of Colorado Denver family, a colleague from another institution, or a new friend just dropping by, I am delighted you are here and hope you will enjoy learning about the current happenings and program offerings at our amazing institution.

To provide a context for your visit, let me explain that the UCD School of Dental Medicine is one of the health professional schools located on the new Anschutz Medical Campus of the University of Colorado Denver in Aurora, Colorado. The Anschutz Medical Campus is already home to the University of Colorado Hospital and several other clinical care facilities, to extensive research facilities and other University-affiliated educational buildings, and it is adjacent to the developing Fitzsimons Bioscience Park.

Arriving on our beautiful new campus from any direction, you will see several major construction sites where new educational, research and clinical care facilities are being completed. Our new health sciences library is one of the seven buildings simultaneously under construction. The process of moving the entire Ninth Avenue campus of the University of Colorado Denver is underway. I am proud to tell you that the School of Dental Medicine was the first of the health professional schools to move all of its operations to the new campus. Our research faculty moved into world class research facilities on the new campus in October 2004 and we opened our new clinical education facility in September 2005.

What does all of this mean for the UCD School of Dental Medicine? It means that the collaborative opportunities for research, education and clinical care with our colleagues from the UCD Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy and Nursing and clinicians and scientists from the UCD Cancer Center and other programs are enhanced and some of the finest in the world.

In the UCD School of Dental Medicine's relatively short history comprising just over three decades, the last few years have witnessed unprecedented growth and progress. Today we are a research-intensive, comprehensive dental educational institution, with internationally recognized educational, research and clinical programs powered by an outstanding faculty, a wonderful staff and students who are second to none.

As you browse our site, I hope it will be obvious that there are many special things about the University of Colorado Denver School of Dental Medicine and the incredible academic health center and University that we are privileged to be a part of. The UCD School of Dental Medicine is an institution on the move.
