Admission Procedures

Each applicant must complete a Dental Hygiene Application.  Applications will be available after June 1 through December 1 of the year proceeding, from the University of Colorado Denver School of Dental Medicine’s web page.  All requested material must be received by the Admissions and Student Affairs office on or before the December 1 deadline.  Applications received after that date will not be considered; therefore, early application is strongly encouraged.

In addition to the Dental Hygiene Application, the School of Dental Medicine requires the following supplemental application materials (forms available online) be sent to the Admissions and Student Affairs office:

  1. A $50.00 non-refundable application fee (payable to:  CU School of Dentistry)
  2. One official transcript from each college/university attended (to be mailed directly to the address below, or include in a  sealed envelope with your dental hygiene application)
  3. Recent photograph (no larger than wallet size), include name on the back
  4. UC Denver Anschutz Medical Campus requires letters of recommendation from one science instructor and one letter from a non-science instructor who has taught you at the undergraduate level (mailed directly to the address below or may be included with your dental hygiene application in a sealed envelope) (Letters from employers or friends are not acceptable in lieu of the required letters of recommendation). Application - Dental Hygiene Application and Check List

Written notification will be sent to each applicant after all supplemental materials have been received.  It is the responsibility of the applicant to see that all materials have been received on or before the deadline of December 1.  Once again, you are encouraged to submit your completed application and supplemental materials early (preferably by November 1) as completed applications will assure full consideration by the committee.

If selected for an interview, notification will be sent to the candidate between mid January and March.   Upon completion of the interview cycle, each candidate will be notified of the final decision made by the Admissions Committee. 

The Dental Hygiene Program seeks well-rounded applicants and uses a personalized, committee-run application process that takes into account the following selection criteria:

  1. Science grade point average
  2. Cumulative grade point average
  3. Applicant's personal statement
  4. Letters of recommendation
  5. Interview scores based upon personal interview with the Admissions Committee
  6. Full-time student for one semester (minimum)
  7. Previous dental experience

Each applicant, upon acceptance into the entering class, will receive a confirmation form which must be returned with a tuition deposit of $200 in order to reserve a position in the class.  This $200 deposit will be applied toward tuition, fees, or any other student obligation during the last term of attendance at UC Denver Anschutz Medical Campus.  The deposit is due upon receipt of the students admissions offer and is refundable up to 60 days prior to the registration date only upon written request.

All accepted students in degree seeking programs are required to complete a background investigation prior to matriculation.  In order to process the investigation, we must receive a non refundable payment in the amount of $65 along with your tuition deposit.
