Admissions
Two to three applicants will be accepted annually. Candidates should possess good academic credentials and have demonstrated a definite interest in periodontics. Additional experience before or beyond dental school (internship or residency, military service, private practice, graduate school, etc.) strengthens the applicant's credentials. A personal site visit and interview are required for the benefit of both the applicant and the UC Denver School of Dental Medicine faculty and is scheduled on specific days for all invited candidates in the Fall. Applicants must have a completed application submitted by August 15th of the year prior to anticipate program start in order to be considered for an interview.
Application Process
Applications can be submitted at anytime throughout the year, however, the deadline to apply to the program is August 15th of each year.

Application required materials include:
- Completed application form
- Personal Essay
- Regents Questionnaire
- Colorado Residency Form (Colorado residency not a requirement)
- 2" x 2" photograph
- Application fee of $50.00
Additional documents required sent directly to CU Denver Program from originating institution:
- Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
- Official GRE scores (optional but desirable)
- Dental school grades and class standing
- Official National Board Dental Examination Part I and Part II scores
- Academic Evaluation Form from Dean of Dental School
- Three (3) Letters of Recommendation
In addition, for International Students:
- TOEFL scores
- Translated transcripts and other documents
Application Form:
Your application must be submitted by mail and received no later than the August 15 application deadline. Incomplete applications will not be evaluated.
Application Fee:
A non-refundable $50 application fee must be received by the Periodontics Postdoctoral Program prior to the initial review of the application folder. Checks should be made payable to "UCDHSC School of Dentistry" with "Perio Application" on the memo line.
Letters of Recommendation:
Three letters of recommendation must be sent to our Program in a sealed envelope with the recommender's signature across the seal.
- Minimum of 1 dental school faculty member, preferably in the Dept. of Periodontics
- Two remaining recommendations from faculty members or practicing periodontists.
Academic Performance Evaluation:
This form is to be completed be the Dean of your dental school with your class rank and GPA.
Personal Essay:
An autobiographical sketch of at least 1 page in length to include any previous periodontics experiences and your reasons for desiring periodontics training.
Official Transcripts from ALL Colleges and Universities Attended:
Official transcripts for all college-level coursework must be mailed directly from the colleges to our Program in a sealed institutional envelope. All applicants must have a DDS or DMD degree from an accredited dental school in the United States or Canada. International students will be considered, but evaluation of their credentials is more difficult, and they must have a satisfactory TOEFL score.
Official GRE Scores:
The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is optional, but desirable and adds to an applicant's credentials. It must have been taken within the past 2 years. Scores must be sent directly from GRE. Our institutional code is 7209. Contact the GRE at (609) 771-7670 or http://www.GRE.org.
Official National Board Part I and Part II Scores:
Scores must be sent from the National Board office and will not be accepted if sent by the applicant. Contact the National Board at (312) 440-2678 or get a request form at their website www.ADA.org (click on "Dental Professional", then "Testing Services", then "Educational & Career Resources-Testing Services" then "National Board Transcripts Request Form", then download, fill out and mail to them).
Interview Required:
Personal interviews are by invitation only - interviews will be held between September 15th and November 15th and will require one full day. Final selection is a anticipated no later than December 1st.
