Facilities

Research Complex 1 includes a twelve-story cancer research tower and a nine-story biomedical research tower.

The Department of Craniofacial Biology conducts basic science research at the beautiful new Research Complex 1 on the Anschutz Medical Campus. This 600,000 square foot, two-building complex boasts state-of-the-art laboratories and animal facilities in addition to administrative offices, lecture halls and conference rooms. The facility is designed to promote extensive multidisciplinary interactions among a variety of biomedical research disciplines.

The Department has established a strong collaboration with the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of Colorado Denver Downtown Campus in Boulder, enabling opportunities for research in biomaterials and bioengineering on both campuses.

Clinical research is conducted at the University of Colorado Denver School of Dental Medicine on the Anschutz Medical Campus. This 94,000 square foot facility houses the clinical and clinical education services of the school. The facility provides “state of the art” high tech operatories and equipment for the training of undergraduate dental students, dental hygiene students, graduate students in general, and orthodontic and periodontal residency programs.

The Research Complex 1 and School of Dental Medicine are in close proximity to the University of Colorado Hospital and its associated outpatient facilities, the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes, and the Nighthorse Campbell Native American Center. The Children’s Hospital and the VA Medical Center will be moving to the Anschutz Medical Campus. The Colorado Biosciences Park, Aurora is being built adjacent to the university site, affording direct opportunities to translate research into biotechnology and therapeutics. The collaborative interactions afforded by close proximity to these different facilities will support expansion of current expertise to address not only basic science oral health research but also clinical, behavioral and preventive issues in oral health.
