Guest Speakers

Dr. Pamela C. Yelick
Dr. Pamela C. Yelick is an Associate Member of Staff, Department of Cytokine Biology, The Forsyth Institute, Boston, MA and Department of Oral Biology, Harvard School of Dentistry. Over the past decade her research has focused on the molecular signaling cascades regulating the coordinated process of craniofacial and tooth development. With experimental focus on 1) Mammalian whole tooth tissue engineering and 2) The use of Zebrafish as a model for human craniofacial and early tooth development, her research activities have provided new insights on the identity and characterization of the progenitor cells necessary for whole tooth development including both epithelial and mesenchymal dental stem cells.

Dr. Yelick received her B.A. degree from Smith College in Biochemistry and a PhD degree in Molecular Biology from Tufts University.

Dr. Lawrence A. Tabak
Dr. Lawrence A. Tabak is Director of the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research.  As Director, he provides the leadership for over 500 scientists, administrators and support staff with an approximate budget of $389 Million.  He is co-chair of the Research Teams for the NIH Roadmap initiatives with emphasis on new ways of doing team science to catalyze additional multi- and interdisciplinary research.

Prior to joining NIH, Dr. Tabak was the Senior Associate Dean for Research and Professor of Dentistry and Biochemistry & Biophysics in the School of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Rochester, NY.  His major research focus has been on the structure, biosynthesis and function of mucin-glycoproteins.  He has both a PhD and is certified in Endodontics from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
