Guest Speakers

Stephanie Bryant, PhD
Dr. Stephanie Bryant currently holds the academic position of Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Chemical and Biological Engineering, University of Colorado at Boulder.  Stephanie obtained her BS degree at the University of Texas at Austin and her PhD degree at the University of Colorado at Boulder and was a Post-doctoral fellow at the University of Washington, Seattle.

Stephanie's current research interests are to combine novel cell scaffold development with mechanical cues to direct and guide tissue growth in the appropriate composition to yield a functional and integrated tissue.   Her research group’s current focus is primarily on cartilage tissue engineering with expansion into cardiac muscle tissue engineering.

Clark Stanford, DDS, PhD
Dr. Clark Stanford holds the position of Associate Dean for Research and the Centennial Fund Professor for Clinical and Translational Research in the Dows Institute for Dental Research and in the Department of Prosthodontics, College of Dentistry, University of Iowa.  He also holds appointments in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, College of Medicine, and the Department of Biomedical Engineering (College of Engineering).  Dr. Stanford received his DDS, Certificate in Prosthodontics and Ph.D. (Cell Biology; 1992) from the University of Iowa.

His research areas deal with osteoblastic gene expression and signaling pathways.   He also runs the Office for Clinical Research in the College of Dentistry.  In this role he helps to organize and perform basic, translational and clinical research studies.  Dr. Stanford is the author 6 book chapters, 57 published papers and more than 140 published research abstracts.  He currently serves on multiple national and international committees and currently holds leadership positions in the International Association for Dental Research, the American Dental Association and American College of Prosthodontists (ACP).  He is the recipient of 15 academic awards including the 2007 State of Iowa Regents Award for Faculty Excellence and the IADR Distinguished Scientist Award (2007).

Cheng-Jun Hu, PhD
Dr. Cheng-Jun Hu holds the academic position of Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Craniofacial Biology, UCD School of Dental Medicine and a joint appointment in the Dept of Pathology, UCD School of Medicine.  Cheng-Jun obtained his PhD at Rush University, Chicago, IL and was a Post-doctoral Fellow at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Abramson Family Cancer Research Center, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA.

Cheng-Jun's current research interests are directed toward fundamental research of early events in neoplastic development with particular focus on the role of hypoxic microenvironments that occur during tumor progression and early stages of metastasis.

Diane Brunson, RDH, MPH
Diane Brunson is the Director of the Oral Health Unit for the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, a position she has held for the last 14 years.  Diane is also an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine, co-teaching the “Community Programs and Issues” class for senior dental hygiene students for the past 12 years.

Diane is a past president of the Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors and a consultant to the ADA’s Council on Access, Prevention, and Interprofessional Relations through their National Fluoridation Advisory Committee.   Diane graduated with a BS in Dental Hygiene from the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine and received her MPH from the University of Northern Colorado.
