Center Mission: Research at UCD School of Dentistry is a vital component to our
mission. We are focused on both basic science and applied areas
of research that address issues related to dental science, oral health
and disease, and craniofacial biology. Areas of research include
these broad areas: Developmental biology of the craniofacial
region, cell and molecular biology of the oral facial tissues, Oral
pathology, neoplastic development, neuroscience which includes neuropathic
and dental pain, Development of polymers and other dental material
science and clinical dental research. |

David Quissell, Ph.D., Associate Dean for Research.
Dr. Quissell received his Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry from University of Wisconsin, Madison and NIH Postdoctoral Fellow in membrane biochemistry at McArdle Laboratory for Cancer, University of Wisconsin, Madison. He is a past member of NIH Oral Biology and Medicine Study Section and Chair of Gordon Research Conference on Salivary Glands and Saliva. Currently, Dr. Quissell is Professor & Chair of the Department of Craniofacial Biology in School of Dentistry with joint appointments in the Depts. of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics & Pediatrics in the School of Medicine. His current research activities include Program Director of NIDCR Program Project Grant entitled, "Molecular Mechanisms of Salivary Gland Apoptosis" and Project Director of HRSA/Office of Rural Health Policy entitled "Community-based Oral Disease Prevention in Rural Native American Population. |
