Medical Scientist Training Program (MD/PhD)
A
highly competitive program, has a separate process, although linked to admissions. Information concerning this program and the entrance requirement are found on the website: http:///www.uchsc.edu/sm/mstp. Students applying to this program should take the GRE as well as the MCAT. Normally eight students are selected on a yearly basis for this seven to eight year program. Students come to the campus for two days of interviews – two to three interviews are completed the first day with the focus on the research area of interest, and on the second day, the first two interviews of the day are with members of the Admissions Committee, and the remaining three to four interviews in the afternoon are a continuation of research related interviews. Students who receive the most favorable consideration have completed extensive research experiences and often present published results of their work. It is not uncommon for students to engage in one to two years of full-time research following graduation from college. The MSTP committee does not extend offers to join their program from the MD matriculated student group.
MD/MBA
MD/MBA is not a program that a student can apply to jointly, but opportunities to do both degrees are available at the University of Colorado. The normal progress for students choosing this program is to complete three years of medical school, but apply to enter the MBA program during the second year. If accepted, the student takes a leave of absence after the third year, completes the MBA in one year, and then re-enters as a fourth year student. Both the MD and the MBA are conferred during graduation from medical school.
MD/MPH
MD/MPH and the MD/JD are available through the University of Colorado, but the student must take initiative to explore these options. The Office of Student Affairs works closely with students who are seeking entrance into these programs during their tenure in medical school.
Rural Scholars Track
The Rural Scholars Track is a new track designed to encourage and support rural practice has been initiated within the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine. This track identifies students interested in rural practice and provides them with, mentorship, additional knowledge, broad skills and rural socialization experiences. The ultimate goal of the track is to increase the number of students who eventually enter, and remain, in practice in rural Colorado . Initial program development funding is provided by a 3-year grant from the Colorado Trust with supplemental support from the Dean of the School of Medicine and from the Department of Family Medicine.
Global Health Track
The Global Health Track is a 4-year, longitudinal program of scholarly study and inquiry for those medical students with an interest in global health. The Global Health Track gives students the necessary training and experience to complete their Mentored Scholarly Activity (MSA) requirement with a global health project.
LEADS Program
