Welcome to IDPT 7004!

Overview
This portion of the Integrated Clinician’s Course has a theme of “Clinical Knowledge and Skills”. It is our goal to provide you with skills necessary for your fourth year of medical school, including preparation for sub-internships and critical care rotations, useful Step 2 review sessions, and career development sessions to help guide you through the residency application process. We hope to make this relaxing, informative, and interactive as as you prepare to move forward into your 4th year.

The General Objectives of IDPT 7004 are:

  1. To provide students with clinical skills evaluation and testing through the CAPE.
  2. To provide students with the information and skills necessary for the residency application process.
  3. To provide students with training in how to sign out a patient and hand them off to colleagues for continuing management.
  4. To discuss how oral health is related to systemic health and the collaborative role of both physicians and dentists in helping patients with oral health issues. To review the pharmacology of the most frequently used antibiotics and drugs used in inpatient adult and pediatric care.
  5. To provide opportunities to discuss the concepts and skills involved in critical care and trauma.
  6. To discuss and review strategies for preparing for Step 2 CS/CK exams.
  7. To provide personal information and counseling about managing student loans.
  8. To provide time and opportunity for students to reflect on the events and personal/professional growth that have transpired in the last year.

Attendance and Remediation:
Students who register for the course but plan to miss one or more sessions must contact the course director at least one month prior to the start of the course. Students must review the Absence Request Policy and complete an Absence Request Form (http://www.uchsc.edu/som/curriculum/icc/policy.html). This form must be emailed to both course directors and the course administrator. Remediation of missed content is required for all absences, voluntary and involuntary. Students who unexpectedly have to miss sessions should contact the course director as soon as possible to discuss the situation. Students will receive an IP until the remediation is satisfactorily completed. Remediation will be due two weeks after the completion of the course.

***** As this is a required course, random attendance will be taken during this course; anyone not present may be checked for attendance on subsequent days. All absences must be remediated.
