Welcome to IDPT 8005!
This portion of the Integrated Clinician’s Course has a theme of “Back to Basics”. It is our goal
to provide you with useful “toolbox” items that you can take with you to your residency. Although there are some didactic
lectures in this course, we’ve made every effort to provide you with practical, interactive case-based reviews, up-to-date
information about clinically relevant research, and personal and career development sessions to help guide you in your
professional career. We hope to make this as relaxing and interactive as possible as you prepare to move forward in your
lives as our colleagues rather than our students!
The General Objectives of IDPT 8005 (“Back to Basics”) are:
- To explore new frontiers in translational research (stem cells, microarrays) and the application to clinical practice
- To review basic concepts in radiology, infectious diseases and cardiovascular care
- To analyze current issues in global health and the role of poverty and ethnicity in drug resistance
- To discuss the politics of pharmaceuticals including the issues surrounding research and development of novel drugs
- To discuss the practical issues and communication challenges of cross cultural patient care
- To discuss career options for medical doctors
- To provide self care skills and financial counseling for surviving the Match and beyond
- To provide time and opportunity for students to reflect on the events and personal/professional growth that have transpired in the last year
