Emergency Care : Integration

  • Medicine and Society: Access to care
  • Humanism, Ethics, and Professionalism (HEP):
    • Issues of advance directives and end-of-life care will be woven into the trauma cases
    • Consent/refusal for treatment of a minor will be woven into the pediatric cases

Basic Science:
Basic Science is incorporated into the small group sessions and clinical cases above, with particular emphasis on review of the pathophysiology of shock, especially as it relates to trauma and serious bacterial infection.

Other: Radiology:
Clinical Exposure: All students are expected to review radiographic studies with their team on all team patients. These will serve as an opportunity for review of radiographic findings and correlation with clinical conditions. As well, students will learn reasoning behind choosing a particular modality and which studies are most appropriate for which conditions, as this relates to their clinical patient care.

Case studies: Relevant radiographic studies will be incorporated into all online and small group cases. Pertinent findings will be reviewed with students.
