Musculoskeletal Care: Integration

Basic Science:

  • Anatomy
  • Bone Metabolism / Osteoporosis
  • Bone Growth & Development / Fracture Healing

Anatomy review will be integrated with the physical exam material. Bone metabolism and bone growth and development / fracture healing will be topics that are included on the intra-session days.

Summary:
The goal of this two week block is to enable students to begin to feel comfortable and competent in the evaluation and treatment of patients presenting with musculoskeletal symptoms. The material covered and the clinical experience should provide the context for further learning as they move to other rotations and on into clinical practice.

The integration with Infant and Adolescent Care seems to work well and as many activities as possible are being integrated back and forth between the sections. These include the thread topics, OSCE’s, administration, orientation, and assessment.
