• University of Colorado Hospital
  Two to four students are assigned to one of four specialty teams. Primary teachers include full-time faculty/attendings and surgical fellows/residents and/or interns. Inpatient and outpatient experiences are available. Rated very good; heavy on specialty care.
• Denver VA Medical Center
  Two students are assigned to one of three specialty teams. The students rotate on General Surgery, Vascular Surgery, and Cardiothoracic Surgery. Primary teachers include full-time faculty/attendings and surgical fellows/residents and/or interns. Inpatient and outpatient experiences are available. Rated very good to excellent; few female patients.
• Denver Health Medical Center
  Two to four students are assigned to one of three general surgery/trauma teams. Primary teachers include full-time faculty/attendings and surgical fellows/residents and/or interns. Residents are from either the University of Colorado or Exempla St. Joseph’s program. Inpatient and outpatient experiences are available. Rated good to very good; heavy trauma load replaces general surgical content; structured learning options are improving.
• Rose Medical Center
  Two to four students are assigned to the teaching service team. Primary teachers include full-time clinical faculty/attendings and surgical residents and/or interns. Inpatient and outpatient experiences are available. Rated very good to excellent; no trauma care, ambulatory nature of work limits student involvement. Adding anesthesiology and the perioperative focus should improve the overall exposure to the patient.
• Exempla St. Joseph’s Hospital
  Two students are assigned to the teaching service team. Primary teachers include full-time clinical faculty/attendings and surgical residents and/or interns. Residents are from either the University of Colorado or Exempla St. Joseph’s program. Inpatient and outpatient experiences are available. Rated very good to excellent; no trauma care, ambulatory nature of work has limited student involvement in the past. Adding anesthesiology and the perioperative focus should improve the overall exposure to the patient.
• The Children’s Hospital
  Two to four students are assigned to the teaching service team. Primary teachers include full-time faculty/attendings and surgical fellows/residents and/or interns. Inpatient and outpatient experiences are available. This site has been rated very good to excellent in previous years from students in both surgery and anesthesiology.
